Proper Oils collects Used Cooking Oil,
refines it into the highest quality biodiesel,
and supplies it to local organisations
We collect from +800 caterers – with more caterers signing up daily – and we are unique in being the only collector working with local authorities to facilitate free collections of Used Cooking Oil from caterers within their borough.
We refine the Used Cooking Oil into EN14214 standard biodiesel – all the action takes place in a factory which we have built in a curtain-sided articulated lorry trailer – so we don’t need a building or an expensive ventilation system, and we reuse an old lorry trailer.
We are currently working hard to set up the factory to commence full scale production of biodiesel for the middle of October – hence why our website just outlines the essential details at this stage – then we will have commercial quantities of biodiesel made from Waste Cooking Oil available ...we will that the biodiesel user can promote the green benefits.
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do:
We want to prove that refining the Waste Cooking Oil into biodiesel locally is better – by reduces the pollution & congestion when collecting; by providing local jobs; by keeping the money circulating within the local community; by minimising our environmental footprint; by costing out the environmental benefits of refining biodiesel locally; by returning a proportion of our profits to support local environmental initiatives.
Lots of people are interested in what we are doing. Since we started operations a year ago – in April 2007 – we have won Richmond Green Business of the Year Award – we were also Highly Commended in the regional final. In 2008 we were shortlisted for South London Business Award for Innovation. Proper Oils has received press coverage in numerous newspapers and magazines and appeared on BBC News, ITV’s London Tonight, Channel 4 News, & CNBC World Business.
