Earlier this year we purchased our first lorry, a 7.5t Mitsubishi Fuso. We wanted to see if using bigger vehicles to deliver, collect and recycle cooking oil would be more efficient than using large vans. We use it to service areas where we have lots of customers, such as in the West End, the City, Camden, Islington, Wembley and Hounslow who use and produce lots of used cooking oil.
We chose a second hand green (in colour) Mitsubishi lorry because they can carry a lot more than a normal 7.5t lorry – over 1 tonne extra which is approximately 33% more. Also, these lorries are designed with very good manoeuvrability, it is more like working and driving a large van. This helps when trying to fit into all the small roads and side alleys at the back of shops where customers store their waste cooking oil.
It has worked well. By using a 7.5t lorry, we can operate much more efficiently. We now carry more new oil for delivery, and collect more waste cooking oil in the same amount of time on the road.
Using bigger vehicles to deliver, collect and recycle cooking oil is a winner. It has worked so well, that we are looking into upgrading all our vehicles in the New Year.
